Topic: So far so good
I'm hoping that I don't have to revisit here in the near future with a repeat performance.
I live in a Housing Association block of flats, only 3 storeys high, in Leicestershire. I had endured nearly two years of absolute hell from two grotesque "people". I had been so proud and chuffed that I had bought the flat, but that initial happiness of having my own four walls was shortlived when the "couple" above moved in. At the age of 18 I was made homeless, arrived in Leicester with very little, and was disgusted to find that here I was having fought and worked hard for everything only for it to be effectively destroyed around me by some thoroughly unpleasant individuals.
I can report after sticking to my guns, not taking crap, understanding how thoroughly useless the law can be, about how inconsistent EH officers can be etc, that the neighbours from hell upstairs effectively "did a runner" and left a few months ago.
I'd like to thank everyone on here for being incredibly understanding and supportive, because their help was quite frankly invaluable. I came close to snapping and utterly losing control quite a few times, but the people on this wonderful forum kept me sane. Thank you so much.
The things I have learnt from this whole sorry episode is record everything, and I mean everything. If you find yourself in this situation you'll be made to feel that you're in the wrong, that you're being unreasonable, but you are NOT in the wrong, and YOU ARE entitled to the peaceful enjoyment of your home. I remember one point where I laughed at the EH officer here. He told me that the only noise covered by the law was that made by TV's and Stereos and that nothing else could be legally actioned, a fact which is totally incorrect, and it's at that point I lost all faith in them. By that EH's officers comments I would have been legally allowed to have gotten a hammer and anvil and banged it all night long. It beggars belief.
