After the quiet little old lady next door went to a retirement home, the new family were all champion noisemakers. The second runners-up were two preschool kids, fighting, yelling, and being yelled at by their mother. First runner-up was the big stupid dog who did learn it could solve any problem by barking enough. No food? Start barking for hours until fed. Rain? Bark until the rain stops. No-one home at Christmas? Bark continuously for three days and nights on end, etc. The winner was the husband, who was never ever quiet, e.g. he would take four hours to mow a lawn with an unsilenced weedeater (that took the previous owner's professional lawnmower man only 15 minutes) and much, much else.

I was seriously considering moving, but unbelievably I heard from another neighbour that the wife had fallen pregnant with twins (unplanned) and so they had to find a bigger house. (No, I didn't interfere with her birth control pills, that thought only occurred to me after the event!)

I now have new normal neighbours again, but I do spare a thought for whichever poor sods are now living next door to the old ones.
