Topic: noisy child above

I live in a middle flatin a private block.
There is a couple above me with a 3 year old son who runs around and bangs all day and into the night.
I find it really distressing and find it hard to relax with this happening, many times late into the evenings.
I wrote a polite note saying that I understand children can be lively and that I do not wish to be a moany neighbour but if they could just be aware of what it is like for us down below and to try and calm it down a little.
They seemed to take note and for a couple of days the noise improved, obviously the little lad could be heard but the constand banging and running from room to room seemed to die down.
Last night it was worse that ever, I was trying to watch tv and the running and banging over my head was awful, sounded like a heard of elephants, it went on for ages with no let up. I got sick of it and banged up a few times only to have the mother with the child come and knock on my door.
She was very irate and said that she cannot stop her child running around and that if she tries he screams, she told me he was different from other children and likes to get his own way.
She was angry with me for even suggesting that she calms him down in the evenings nd said my note was rude, which is a complete lie.
I feel disappointed that she was so un cooperative and that she wouldn't even have that she had a problem and to be honest in her words, Ijust have to put up with it.
I am not sure what steps to take now, has anyone been in a similar situation?
if so what steps did you take?
I would really appreciate some advice

Many thanks

Re: noisy child above

Hello and Welcome Chelsea,

Difficult one .... as in "children"......

however whilst I have no children....it appears to be common that some parents have no control over their offspring and allow them to run riot...and of course children like to have their own way....thats why there are parents...to guide and control them....or are children actually in charge as this one appears to be ???

ok. Private block.  so owned  ???  Do you have a management company to appeal to ???

Can you borrow or do you have a camcorder to record these nightly/daily disturbances ???  Which you could take to the Management company ???  Freeholder ???

Thank you very much for your reply and if there is no let up I will indeed contact the letting agency.
I will try and record the racket too.
Thanks again

Re: noisy child above

Your more than welcome.

People don't tend to find our forum until there at BREAK point....

maintain a log as well, with entries showing your attempts to discuss the situation and the outcome.  While tenants pay their rent they are good tenants...and when complaining, remember that its only we who suffer who understand, people without the experience may think they understand....but they have not a clue how you can be made to feel....

and don't forget we're here...your not alone now. neutral
