Topic: Responsibilities of noisy neighbours landlady
Last May we got a new neigbour. The house had been repossessed and bought by somebody to rent out. The tenant is a nightmare. It started the week she moved in. Music, shouting, screaming, drug taking, fighting and even had to listen to her very noisy sex at 2am on more than one occasion. Once she had us awake from 7pm-7am and another time her friend threatened to kick my head in after we asked them to turn the music down. Can I add this was at my front door in front of my 2 year old daughter. In that instance I called the police but it was a Friday night and they were called away before they could speak to next door. 4 logs sheets have been filled in and we have just had our second lot of sound recording equipment. We think we have managed to catch her this time as the first time it was in she went on holiday.
So two questions. Assuming we have sufficient noise recorded what happens next?
Secondly what legal responsibility does the landlady have for her tenants behaviour? We have spoken to her loads of times from the get go. At first she seemed reasonable and said she wouldn't be renewing her tenancy after 6 months. However she soon got fed up of us. I've had her shout at me on the phone and slam it down. Refuse to speak to us. I've heard her screaming at next door over overdue rent!! This woman is making me as mad as the neighbour. Shes horrible. So should she be doing more? If an abatement notice/fine was given would she be notified?
