The equipment i had fitted reputedly only recorded when i pushed a button? So as long as you stay quiet when the button is pushed you won't have a prob? (assuming you have the same type of equipment fitted?)

Hi and thanks for the replies. Perhaps i misunderstood, yep it has the record facility on it so I guess thats it then. Also yes its quiet but usually noise does not start until 8 or 9 pm. Lets see how it goes.
Wish I had found this forum earlier. this has been going on for about a year. We usually have some complaints with the neighbors (mostly bearable) but this is the worst one yet.

Just thought though, the chap did mention about it if they made noise when we were out?

Just when we were begining to think it was going to be quiet! We've had 3 hours of talking loudly and arguing with occasional banging. Excellent!

Yep we recorded most of the 3 hours yesterday. Unfortunately he/they can be sporadic but mostly begin about 8 or 9pm. Also sometimes into the early hours at weekends. Its funny how you tend to try and be quiet in the backgroud. But yesterday we did have the telly on.

This is the info I got back from the EH guy in response to my query;  it stays on for 24 hours and logs all the sounds occurring during that period. The information however will only be available to me as a graph showing highs and lows and duration. When you press the 'on' button I can then hear the noise you are hearing, this will last for 5 mins and turn itself off unless you press stop button. When I look at the graph these 'audible' periods will be indicated so that I know where to look and can compare similar patterns on the printout where noise may have present but it was not recorded.
