Topic: Give us your suggestions to improve Noisy Neighbours

Hi everyone

It's good to see the forum getting some good discussions going, with people explaining their predicaments and others giving tips and advice on how to tackle noisy neighbours. As the forum gains members and posts, I'd like to ask visitors if there are any features they would like to see on Noisy Neighbours, either on the website itself or on this forum.

Please reply to this topic with your ideas, and if any are popular enough, I'll try to implement them.

To get you started, I would suggest a general forum, for discussion of topics other than noisy neighbours (so alongside the Noisy Neighbour Experiences forum there would be another one, where people could chat about anything).

Cheers,

Maybe it would be good to have a section where there could be links to advice services or phone numbers where solutions for this problem could be found.

Thanks Nick

Perhaps I could add this to the main site, e.g. on the Involving the Authorities page? Are there any particular resources you'd like to see there?

Just any local or national services for dealing with this problem...noise teams that can be called out day or night, things like that.  smile

Re: Give us your suggestions to improve Noisy Neighbours

i think by just joining the forum, and seeing that you arent the only one in the world who
noise pollution affects makes you feel just a little bit better. i think a tips page would be good
also, and showing cheap ways of soundproofing, and general houshold advice to cut down
the noise from noisy neighbours. i think thats the only way to solve it, but if your neighbours
are nasty or violent then authoritys should be called,
                     great site by the way.

So good to find were not alone
help is needed before it turns violent !! all sensible avenues have been approached,
We  have tried  to be neighbourly by inviting them into my home to hear the unacceptable noise level  for themselves, a  time agreement reached when reasonable cut of times were accepted  so to enables a good nightly sleep pattern for all
help!!!! please wondering , what else could  be done without it all turning  nasty!!!

As the two posters above me said,  it's good to know we are not alone (even tho I wouldn't wish noisy neighbours on anyone) and this is a place we can come in and talk or rant about this issue.

Can I suggest that there are fewer new threads?  A very large number of recent threads cover much the same ground, with different titles, but very few differences in content. It makes finding any help, or giving any advice, almost impossible, because you have to trawl through loads of threads.  I wanted to give some encouragement and suggestions to others, as my Mum's recently had a lot of help with her noisy neighbour problems, and I've absolutely no idea where to put them or, indeed, should I start yet another thread?

Thanks for the suggestion. Although I could restrict posting, I don't really want to do that because it might discourage people from posting. I understand what you mean though. Is there any particular general advice you'd like to give? I could add it to the main site or make it a sticky post at the top of the forum.

Thanks again for the suggestion!

Re: Give us your suggestions to improve Noisy Neighbours

Hello Laurence!  I have in mind various people to contact, records to keep, those who are more likely to get sympathy from the authorities, ways to go about things.  I think I've mentioned all of these in previous posts, but no one has acknowledged them, possibly because they've not seen them.

It would be good, too, to have a separate section, maybe, of success stories, rather than all doom and gloom, so that people can see that it is possible to solve, or improve, the problem in a lot of cases.

Re: Give us your suggestions to improve Noisy Neighbours

perhaps the best solution is to threaten. My noisy neighbour is of violence nature and there is no law against noisy residents here. I think she is psychotic with the way she's shouting at random times at her husband and her words are usually about shutting her husband up and i never heard her husband retaliate or reply before. I'm going insane even i'm living 10 metres away she's blasting curses at 3am in the morning at nobody i must do something.

Re: Give us your suggestions to improve Noisy Neighbours

You say, David, that there's no law against noisy residents.  Where do you live, then, the Outer Hebrides?  Anywhere in England, it's against the law to cause a disturbance between the hours of 11pm and 7 am. If the noise is persistant, and frequent, then record it and, when it's going on, call the police at the time, then report it to the EHO at the local council.

You could have fooled me, I live in London and my awful upstairs neighbours often play loud music after 11pm and have noisy plumbing that bangs until all hours of the night and veery little has been done to stop them after we've told the council about them, as for the police they'll never take this kind of issue seriously.

Really??!!  Do you live in a generally noisy or rough area?  If so, I could understand why the police wouldn't see it as being a big problem, if the environment is noisy anyway.  Otherwise, I don't see how they can't take it seriously!

I live in St Johns Wood which is a pretty good area.

But surely noisy neighbours and anti social behaviour is against the law and should be taken very seriously.
