Ah, she's a good girl is our Pandora! ![]()
Just calling in to see how it's all going. Can I just say, Pandora, well done, you! You are a real asset to this forum. Bless you for all the dedicated work you put in. I'm sure that all of the regulars really value what you do (if not, they should!), and I hope it starts to have a really positive effect on how the 'authorities' regard the noise nuisance so many people have to put up with! You go, girl! ![]()
Thank you both. It wasn't the noisy neighbours that made Mum move, but because she realised that, at a very physically and mentally active 82, it may not be too long before she'll need some help, if only occasionally. If all had gone according to plan, she would have moved here before the noise situation had got too bad. Still, we never know why these things happen, do we?
I may pop in every so often, just to see how everyone's getting on, especially the regulars. Mind you, wouldn't it be great if people didn't need top be regulars in here? Bless you, Pandora, for your gift of 'giving', which comes over so strongly in your posts. Keep up the good work, but I really hope and pray that your situation gets sorted soon. X
Hi all. Just to let you know that I'll no longer be visiting this wonderfully helpful and supportive place. I came in here when my elderly Mum was having huge problems with her neighbours, and the EH were worse than useless. Just as the sale of her house was going through, and the buyers' solicitor started wanting details of the noise problem, the noisy neighbours were moved out by the landlord, not for being noisy, but because they'd fallen behind with their rent, and they'd trashed the place. When the new tenants moved in, they had a house warming party, and Mum went next door to ask them to keep the noise down a bit. The landlord was there, and came into her house to listen. He now understands just how noise is amplified by laminate flooring, and is arranging for carpet.
But it doesn't matter anymore, because last week, Mum moved over to the Isle of Wight, just across the road from us. She's moved from a mid-terrace house in noisy suburbia to a detached bungalow surrounded by farmland. She was sad to leave her house of 60+ years, but is so excited to be living here now. I just wish it could be so for all of you troubled people - not that you necessarily move to the countryside, but that you get the peace you all deserve and are entitled to. So, thank you all for your support and friendship. A special thank you to Laurence for starting this forum, and for allowing me the privilege of being a moderator. I hope I did an ok job - it's now in the hands of very worthy people. ![]()
Hopefully a brilliant an quick result. My mum's neighbours were very much the same - started as soon as they moved in, and took no notice whatsoever of any requests or complaints. Very oddly, after Mum and the neighbours on the other side 'had a go', they moved out just three days later. ![]()
Haven't been in for a while, but I have to say, Annie, that you've changed! You go, girl!
You've quite few cards in your hands, be brave and use them to your full advantage. Yep, Field Marshall Annie, with guns blazing, with any luck, they'll soon be cannon fodder. Lol!
Oh wow! Wonderful letter, Mac! ![]()
And the seaside should be such a lovely place to live!
Do you know, 30 years ago, when our older daughter was a baby, we had lads on their little over-revved bikes going up and down our usually quiet back road. It constantly woke our daughter, I called the police, and was told that, as much as they sympathised, there was nothing they could do, as long as the bikes were legal. Things ahven't changed much over the years, have they?
Still, it was sorted eventually in our case, as a neighbour knew the parents of one of the lads. She told them that I'd called the police, and no more noise! ![]()
Hello and welcome to the forum for the noise weary! I'm afraid to say that most police forces will have nothing to do with noise matters and, unless they believe that someone is actually being seriously hurt (and obviously the woman is denying that), they won't take action. Youre best bet, in the first instance is to make a record of the disturbance and times for two weeks or so (yes, it has to be that long, sorry!), then call the Environmental Health dept at your local council, and ask for advice. I just hope for your sake that you have a helpful council.
Nice one, Cobra! ![]()
There are no clear answers to your last questions, I'm afraid, Beth. What one council does right, another doesn't or won't. Although the laws on noise control are clear, councils all interpret them differently. Some seem to interpret them as that they need to nothing at all, sadly!
No, noise laws don't distinguish noise at night any differently to noise during the day, although the hours of 11pm - 7 am are considered to be hours of sleep. We have to realise, though, that there is often more background noise during the day than there is at night, which means that any noise nuisance during the night is usually all the more noticeable. Any official recording equipment will be calibrated against the level of sound during the day. Does your neighbours' clock vibrate as well as sound loud? I ask simply because that adds to the sound nusiance if it does.
All the best Kara/Minx. Hope you find the peace and home you need and want. Do keep in touch!
I might agree with you, Cobra, if it wasn't for the fact that this clock is unlikely to be picked up much on recording equipment, and therefore no action could or would be acted upon. I'm not saying that action shouldn't be taken, just in reality, even the best EH dept would take action. Even if it were taken to court, I doubt anything much could be done. After all, Beth has said that the music gets longer during the day, which means that recording equipment would have to be left on 12 hours a day. Can't see that happening somehow although, for Beth's sake, I hope I'm wrong.
Exactly, Sam, and that's why something should be said about her comment.
