i have the same problem. In my bedroom i have screwed batons to the wall filled the gaps with acoustic felt then screwed sound proofing plaster board over the top. It has muffled the problem but not cured it,. Im going to do something similar in the living room but instead of using standard sound proof plaster board from a diy shop im going to use some specialist sound proofing material attached to plaster board that i found on the net. Hopefuly this will be better. Its not cheap but better than the current situation. I would be interested to see how the layers of plasterboard idea works

I moved into my terraced house about 2 years ago and its the biggest mistake ive ever made. The walls between me and my neighbours are so pointless they may aswell not be there! The one side is a family of polish who i can here banging around and shouting all day long and on the other side my living room backs onto my neighbours kitchen. I can hear them talking but worse opening and closing draws and cupboards and when there chopping food its like the walls are coming down. Surely this problem is more due to crap walls than noise. You can hardly ask somebody not to open a draw and the polish side must in turn here me cooking in my kitchen. Knowing this makes me feel uncomfortable like i have no privacy in my own home. Its a nightmare as negative equity on the morgage stops me moving and sound proofing is expensive and ive heard it doesnt work!! The only saving grace is that both sides go to bed at a reasonable hour so apart from when someone on the polish side is snoring i get quiet in the evenings
