Topic: NO DSS Please
Has anyone else noticed that more and more of the ads placed by private landlords nowadays have the message NO DSS toward the end of them ?
Having recently suffered at the hands of an unemployed young person (paid for by DSS naturally) I can easily understand many people's dislike of not only the genuinely unemployed, but also the workshy individuals who tend to give the majority of unemployed persons a bad bad name.
I occupy the entire ground floor of quite a modern house here in the south west of the country, the upper floor having been converted into two bedsits.
One of the upper floor tenants is a reasonably quiet type of person, and I admire the way he takes great pains to avoid becoming a nuisance to both myself and near neighbours.
I wish I could say the same for the young chav who took up residence here a couple of weeks ago.
From the very first day it was noise noise noise ! TV Video Games Rap Music (?) many assorted visitors at all hours of the day and night...in short, a total lack of consideration for other tenants and neighbours.
After receiving a complaint from the person living in the house next door, I contacted the landlord who assured me that this individual had been placed in this house by DSS after being granted leave from a local bail hostel.
The landlord kept his word and for the last 3 days it has been as quiet as a graveyard on the upper floor, and hopefully, it will stay that way.
Anyone reading this might be forgiven for thinking that I am an old fart who just wants everyone to creep around making no noise at all ! Nothing could be further from the truth. I am merely a fully employed engineer who has the odd habit of sleeping at night and working during the day, and thankfully the threat of council (EHO) action seems to have worked wonders in this particular case.
In closing, all I can say is that more people need to take action in circumstances such as this, keeping within the boundaries of the law of course.
