Topic: Neighbour's boyfriend
I live in a small house which is in a block of four known as a quadrant terrace. Generally the soundproofing is fairly reasonable, but my party wall with the house behind mine is not quite up to the job. I purchased this house in 2006 and for the first couple of years it was good. Sure I had people living at the back of me, firstly a young couple who were waiting to be housed by the local council who didn't stay very long. They were then followed by a lady vet who had just moved to the area and was looking to buy a much larger property in order to accomodate her two dogs and a cat. Again no problems,as she very strict with the dogs and would not allow them to bark. She moved out in March 2008, then the house was bought by a young school teacher whose father stripped it out almost completely and practically rebuilt it. This made a fair old bit of noise at times, but as it only went on up until about 4.00 pm during weekdays it was tolerable. Finally in May 2009 she moved in and the boyfriend would come to stay at weekends. Then the noise really started to become a nuisance. He has a really awful laugh, difficult to describe, but loud and high pitched. Also there is a fair bit of stomping around and banging of doors etc. And of course there are the visitors who seem to descend at weekends for whole days at a time. The drink starts to flow and the volume of voices and laughter rises and rises until departure around about midnight. The odd thing about these people is that they do seem to bother about playing music. Just as well, but it makes me a bit anxious about playing mine or having the TV on in case it annoys them and I get a retaliation situation. They are not horrible people, but they are young and inconsiderate to others and I don't feel I can talk to them about it in case they turn nasty towards me. Now the boyfriend has moved in, so I get a bit noise from him in the evening. Luckily they both go to bed quite early as they both have early starts in the mornings, so at least my weekdays are peaceful. But then of course there are the school holidays and one never quite knows when the noise is going to start and when it will end. I am looking forward to early March 2010 when I shall moving out of here and shall probably leave them a note about their inconsiderate behaviour.
