Why do tone deaf idiots think they can sing after they've had a drink?
Unfortunately we have had noisy neighbours for 3 years, more recently taking band practice between 8pm - 2/3 am.Following polite requests to reduce noise, council complaints, police involvement, environmental health, ASBO and MP correspondence we are out of answers. Having used many trees keep ing a 3 yr noise diary along with the occassional noise matron (with no evidential recording due to random and nature of noise being dulled through walls) we are now stuck for answers.
HAS ANYBODY HAD SUCCESS WITH THE AUTHORITIES OR A POSITIVE OUTCOME FOLLOWING CONTINUOUS NUISANCE FROM NOISY NEIGHBOURS?
Any success stories would be much appreciated, although I acknowledge you may all be reading to find the answers! This may just spur us on to perservere with our situation in the hope of a quiet life!!!

I started this site after having had a positive experience with my erstwhile noisy neighbours. They were a nightmare, playing base-heavy music at 4am (starting at that time, for some bizarre reason) and having shouting matches at all hours, even into the close (stairwell) of our tenement. After several weeks of this I decided enough was enough, and wrote a note which I put through their door, explaining that the level of noise (and the times at which it was occurring) was unacceptable, and that if it continued I would contact the local environmental wardens and/or the police. That had a pretty calming effect on the noise and they stopped completely.
I realise some neighbours are much worse than this and a note isn't enough to stop them, but I reckon if you've written the letter properly and calmly, and made it clear that you are willing to involve the authorities, then when you come to do that you can say that you gave them a chance to stop the noise but they didn't do it. That can only help your case with the local authority/police.
The last thing you probably want to do is to be civil, but I think in the initial stages of trying to tackle the problem it's pretty crucial in order to avoid things escalating into something much nastier than 'just' noise.
